The Wellington Live Music Trail featuring the return of the Boomshack Band featuring Samuel Flynn Scott, Barnaby Weir, Julia Deans and Seamus Johnson

Thought up by session musicians wanting to share their late night jams, The Boomshack Band was formed. The band is made up of working musicians, keen to study the finer details of 50s and early 60s music that they love, and jam with mates. 

Residencies followed at Bar Bodega, Mighty Mighty and then San Fran, were often sold out and after 8 years Ricky Boyd the band leader, left Wellington for Gisborne. “Our last public show was in 2013, and now the band have reformed to take on Wellington again, to do our part to help people get back into the bars and return to some normalcy”. 

“If we’re returning” Boyd continues “We will bring the full band, including horns and some supreme guests to the fore”. Former guests to the band include Liam Finn, Marlon Williams, Ladyhawke, Connan Hosford (original member), Darren Watson, Miles Calder. Special guests this time around include former guests Sam Scott, Barnaby Weir, Lisa Tomlins and new guest Seamus Johnson from Sea Mouse *. 

Playing authentic R’n’B, Rockabilly, Rock n Roll, Surf and early 60s including Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Sun Records artists, Ray Charles, The Sonics, The Ventures, Wanda Jackson, Link Wray, Eddie Cochran, Screaming Jay Hawkins, dancers, musicians and music lovers, be there or be square!
