HTRK (hate rock) formed in Melbourne in 2003 as the trio of vocalist Jonnine Standish, bassist Sean Stewart and guitarist Nigel Yang. Their early shows caught the attention of legendary guitarist Rowland S. Howard who went on to produce their debut "Marry Me Tonight" (blastfirstpetite). In 2006 the band relocated to Europe, toured widely with Liars and signed to Ghostly International. After Stewart's tragic suicide in 2010 Standish and Yang continued as a duo, releasing the intense, texture-laden "Work (work, work)" in 2011. Returning to Australia in 2012, Standish and Yang decamped to the deserts of New Mexico with Nathan Corbin (Zebrablood) to produce their third album "Psychic 9-5 Club" (2014), a dub-wise meditation on altered states and "inner peace" that struck deep with fans and critics the world over. The band returned in 2019 with two releases, the guitar-driven “Venus in Leo” and ambient soundtrack “Over the Rainbow” on Boomkat Editions. HTRK’s fifth studio album is slated for release in September 2021.
