Ben Hunt and his ensemble are diving in to recreate this atmospheric masterpiece in the spirit of the Miles Davis' classic, 'Kind Of Blue'. The evening will also include arrangements recorded by the esteemed First Quintet, and some of our other Miles favourites from that era. Ben Hunt – trumpet Chris Buckland - tenor saxophone Jake Baxendale - alto saxophone Anita Schwabe – piano Nick Tipping – bass Mike Jensen - drums Ben Hunt is a freelance musician and teacher based in Aotearoa. Since graduating from the New Zealand School of Music in 2011 with a PGDipMus and BMus, Ben has made a name for himself as a versatile, in-demand trumpet player. Ben composes and performs original music with Richter City Rebels, Raw Collective, Niko Ne Zna, and was frequently involved with the Arthur Street Loft Orchestra (ASLO) series. He holds the rank of Sergeant within the RNZAF Band and is lead trumpet with the Wellington Mingus Ensemble. Ben has also performed with Orchestra Wellington and was in the Rodger Fox Big Band for 10 years. He has performed at numerous festivals including: the Monterey Jazz Festival (USA), Jazz Education Network Conference (USA), Castlemaine State Festival (AUS), Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival, WOMAD, Rhythm and Vines, Splore, 2022 May Wgtn Jazz Club newsletter.docx [5] Homegrown, Tora Tora Tora, Tauranga Jazz Festival, and Wellington Jazz Festival. Shortly after graduating Ben spent several months working as the show orchestra trumpet player onboard Princess cruise ships, honing his skills in sight-reading and stylistic interpretation while travelling through the Mediterranean, Baltic, Caribbean, and South America. With over 10 years of teaching experience Ben is an Associate Member of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers New Zealand (IRMTNZ). He is currently an Artist Teacher at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music, and runs his own teaching studio. Some recent career highlights include session work with: Shapeshifter, The Black Seeds, Troy Kingi, Tami Nielson, TOI, and Louis Baker, performing in New Orleans and New York with the Rodger Fox Big Band, and bugling at Gallipoli on Anzac Day 2019.
