Event Details

Get ready for a night of soulful sophistication as Ruby Jackson and her 9-piece band take the stage at The Lansdowne Hotel on April 12th. Hailed as 'the little black dress in your wardrobe, an instant classic,' Ruby has become a central figure in the Australian R&B/Jazz scene.

Sydney-based songwriter, producer, and performer, Ruby Jackson began her journey at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she honed her composition skills. Since then, she has evolved into a world-class creator with songs that resonate deeply with her audience. In November 2022, Jackson was crowned FBi Radio’s ‘Independent Artist of the Week’ for her hit 'Get Around To It,' a smooth and classy Alternative R&B track that quickly became a crowd favourite.

Rooted in a jazz-centric background, Ruby has masterfully blended classic music with a modern twist, drawing inspiration from UK R&B icons Lily Allen, Mahalia, and Joy Crookes. Collaborating with Australia's finest talents like Chelsea Warner, Dean Brady, RISSA, and BOY SODA, Jackson has carved out an authentic sound that sets her apart.

In 2023, Ruby's singles 'Out Of Fashion,' 'Guilty Pleasure,' and 'You’ve Changed' dominated the airwaves, earning Double J rotation, Triple J Unearthed rotation, and industry acclaim for her versatile Australian-R&B vocals. 'You’ve Changed' paved the way for Ruby's debut EP 'Sweeter For Me,' launched with a sensational 10-piece band performance at The Lady Hampshire.

Receiving strong support from triple j, Unearthed, Double J, FBi Radio, iHeartRadio, and community radios nationwide, Ruby continues to captivate audiences. Last year, she showcased her talent at BIGSOUND with her 7-piece band and graced the stage at SXSW Sydney as a 4-piece. Ruby has already kicked off 2024 with intimate performances at Cockatoo Island’s Sunset Sessions and Hot Jazz Picnic.

Don't miss the chance to experience Ruby Jackson's multi-generational vision of alternative R&B and jazz at The Lansdowne Hotel on April 12th. Get ready for a night of vibrant, fresh, and exciting tunes from Ruby's undeniably talented and magical 9-piece ensemble.

Supporting Ruby Jackson will be Kyoshi and EBS.

With their highly anticipated second album on the horizon, Kyoshi is poised to showcase a diverse palette of sounds, solidifying their status as one of Australia's most unique and innovative bands. Blending elements of future soul and psychedelic R&B, Kyoshi channel the local essence of Eora/Sydney into captivating melodies, heartfelt lyrics and sincere storytelling. Leah, Yianni, Tommy and Rory continue to redefine and reshape their musical landscape, captivating hearts and minds along the way.

EBS (solo project of Ebony Tait) is an alternative folk musician based Sydney. Having spent the first 10 years of her life in Russia, she started learning music via Russian folk songs, a steadfast influence to this day. She has always been drawn to layered, warm-cup-of-tea sounds, with a broad range of influences. Her music is delicate and sensitive, a cosy melancholia with lyrics based on her own experiences. This is evident in her first album of original music entitled ‘At The Thought’ (released June 2021 - Bandcamp), and only growing stronger in her latest singles ‘Stained Glass’ (released April ‘23) and ‘When I Wake’ (released Sept ‘23), from her upcoming 2024 EP.
