Brisbane seven piece indie/alt-country group Halfway have released their brand new single Ghostline today, taken from their forthcoming album On the Ghostline, with Hands of Lightning, due out on August 26th.

The central, searching guitar riff of the song is an absolute ear worm, burrowing instantly into your short term memory. The band deliver their trademark mix of understated melodicism, poignant lyrics and a dynamic interplay between the players that’s perfectly balanced, folding indie guitar rock and a widescreen, modern alt-country patina into sublime sonic shapes.

The band’s John Busby states that “as a track and the lead single from the upcoming album, ‘Ghostline’ echoes the album’s overall themes of repurposed and recycled memory. ‘Ghostline’ examines the threads and the ties that bind us together, including those things that defy time and distance. A lyric in the song says “the words are from a song, I can hear the band”, which suggests that even when dealing with issues like a global pandemic and being 3000 kilometers apart, simple things like a song can act as an essential thread, a ghostline, keeping things on course and binding us together.”

The record was produced and mixed by Malcolm Burn at La Maison Bleu Studio, Kingston NY. Burn is a Grammy Award winning producer whose CV includes Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Midnight Oil, Emmylou Harris, and Archie Roach.
