Through spoken word, poetry, music and conversation Cafe Philosophique aims to look deeply into the things that make us human and provide a space to question and dissect their roles in our lives.

A night in the Balcony Bar with the setting sun and sounds of artists in a series of performances, De L'amour. Ending with an open conversation where you are invited to share your thoughts and experiences while listening to those of others.

This is a series of Tuesday nights, individually ticketed, exploring the nature of relationships.

Music: The Orbweavers

First Nations, recent arrival and settler perspectives dissect our relationship with place and its relevance in our everyday interactions. 
In particular, in this age of climate crisis, the need for people to connect and care for country is ever more urgent.

Jacky T

Jacky T is a Melbourne based poet, rapper & Postman originally from country Victoria. He wears city life like a itchy woolen sweater and is currently writing for Hallmark's newest card range, titled: 'Congratulations on your polyamorous relationship! We're uncomfortable around you and your partners but understand you were always a difficult person to please.

Sermsah Bin Saad

As a multifaceted personality, Sermsah’s name in the Indigenous community is synonymous with theatre, television, films, festival circuits, opera, dance and choreography. After cracking into the tough Top 14 on “So You Think You Can Dance”, he also led the dancers in memorable musical numbers in the crowd-pleasing, mega hit movie Bran Nue Dae. Currently a member of the Melbourne Playback Theatre Company and a Radio Broadcaster for Joy 94.9 with his own show 'Urban Dreaming' about Bridging the Gap between two Worlds. A facilitator on empowerment of cultural and spiritual education and uses the medium of the Arts as a tool to educate society. Above all of his artistic achievements, Sermsah values his heritage. He believes in ‘Liyan’ (Lee-yarn) a Nyikina (Nyee-geen-na) saying springing from his hometown of Derby in WA meaning ‘Comnection of Spirit’ and the 'Understanding of your instinctual Knowledge'. Affectionately known as Suri, this vibrant and award-winning artist aims to entertain with style and incredible magnetism.

Soreti Kadir

Soreti Kadir is storyteller and facilitator. She is captivating both on the stage and on the page. Soreti has performed solo and collaboratively across mediums, with poetry being her specialty. She has also lead workshops, authored two books of poetry and spoken amongst a diversity of gatherings across the country and abroad.

Enza Gandolfo

Enza Gandolfo is a Melbourne writer and the author of two novels, Swimming (shortlisted for the Barbara Jefferis Prize) and The Bridge (shortlisted for the Stella Prize 2019). She is also the co-author of two non-fiction books including: Inventory: On Op Shops with Sue Dodd and It Keeps Me Sane: Women Craft Wellbeing with Marty Grace. Enza has worked as a teacher, youth worker and academic and is an Honorary Professor in Creative Writing at Victoria University.

The Orbweavers (Musician)

The Orbweavers are Marita Dyson and Stuart Flanagan, multidisciplinary artists working in song, performance and visual art. Their work responds to history, memory and place. The Orbweavers have written and produced three studio albums, soundtracks for film and television, and have performed nationally at music festivals and cultural organisations. In 2016 they received a State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowship to research and write songs about local waterways, industrial history and environmental change, which has developed into their current body of songs and accompanying visuals: Newer Volcanics.
