The search for the most deadly West Australian emerging indigenous artists is on with nominations open until 11.59pm Tuesday August 20th for the inaugural WA NAIDOC Music Awards.

The NAIDOC Music Awards has been developed to recognise the importance of awarding our talented indigenous musicians across nine different categories that will see even unrecorded artists acknowledged for their talent:

  • Best Song
  • Best Album
  • The Jason Bartlett Award for Best Vocalist
  • Best Male Artist
  • Best Female Artist
  • Best Music Video
  • Undiscovered Artist (Unrecorded)
  • Emerging Artist
  • Best Hip-Hop Song
  • Best Band/Group

To be eligible to be nominated for a NAIDOC Music Award you, or the lead singer/songwriter of your band, must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and any song submitted must be original.

You do not need to have a professionally recorded track to be eligible for the Undiscovered award. All you need is a video recording of you singing your song which can be submitted directly to the NAIDOC Music Awards Facebook page here.

For all other award nomination submissions you will need your biography and a recording of your song of demo quality or higher. Know someone who you think should be nominated, but won’t nominate themselves, you can nominate them yourself! Submit your nomination, or nominate someone here.

Winners will be awarded at the awards ceremony taking place at Freo.Social on Friday September 6th from 7pm. Adding to this night-of-nights for the WA music community, will be live performances by alt-rockers The Struggling Kings as well as recent three time category winner and WAM Song of the Year Grand Prize runner-up, Hip-Hop MC Flewnt, with more to be announced. Also, singer-songwriter, top didgeridoo player and absolute local legend Phil Walley-Stack will be performing and heading up the evening as the NAIDOC Music Awards night emcee.
